Despite a difference in favorite sports teams, Joelle Svab and John Fleming got along right from the start. The two worked on the same floor of an office building in New York City and after many hellos, the two began to talk more often. John finally worked up the courage to ask Joelle on a date.
The two took a cruise to Bermuda together in the summer of 2010 and John couldn’t help but propose after he saw Joelle admiring an engagement ring. Although he had the ring and she said yes, John refused to let Joelle wear the ring or tell anyone until he asked for her father’s permission.
Joelle and John were married at St. Pius X in Fairfield by the Reverend Shawn Cutler. Friends and family gathered at the Patterson Club in Fairfield following the ceremony. Both Joelle and John come from large families making the wedding a family affair with a few special friends. Music ranging from the Beatles to Bon Jovi was sung all night and particularly favored by the kids at the wedding.
The bride is the daughter of Eleanor and Robert Svab of Watertown, where she attended Watertown High School. Joelle later received her degree in communications from Boston College and then her JD/MBA from Pace University. Joelle currently works as the vice president of Viacom in New York City.
John is the son of the late Adele and Robert Fleming. He attended St. John the Baptist D.H.S. in West Islip, New York. The groom currently works as a technician at the Associated Press in New York City.
The couple returned to their Fairfield home after a honeymoon in South Africa and Seychelles.
