It’s 5 p.m.; time to unwind. It’s also when many area restaurants bring out their best deals, giving new definition to the early-bird special.
Take Amore Cucina, Monday through Friday, 3–6 p.m., when its beers and wines are half-priced, as are all appetizers and thin-crust pizzas.
On weekdays from 5–6:30 p.m., Bartaco, with its beachy-and-reezy atmosphere, is the perfect setting for taco bites, party packs (guacamole, quesadillas, tamales, chipotle slaw, you name it) and margaritas. Go ahead and splurge; the sipping tequila is top-shelf.
No matter the time of year, nothing tops the Crab Shell’s location. Its happy-three-hours are 4–7 p.m., Monday through Thursday, when wines, beer and well drinks are $5, and clams and oysters are $1 each.
Kona Grill’s happy hour is ongoing, since it’s offered from 3–7 p.m., and again from 10 p.m. until closing, plus all day Sunday. Many drinks are half-priced, including mules, martinis and sangrías. A dozen menu faves are also half-priced, like sushi, flatbreads, chicken sate, and tacos.
Keep THE Party Going!
Not ready to call it a night? If it’s more fun and late-night snacks you’re after, here are our picks.
Tucked in the back of an alley off Columbus Park, this place is rockin’ till 1 a.m. weeknights; 2 a.m. Friday through Sunday. Line dancing, drinking and painting—you never know what you might find. Order the St. Louis-cut sticky ribs and try some of the lemonades, spiked with huckleberry or Jack Daniel’s, or one of our favorites, the Saloon Shine Punch (vodka, banana liqueur, and orange and cranberry juices). But be careful. They go down smoothly.
Brother Jimmy's BBQ
The new kid on the Bedford Street block. Sunday through Thursday, it closes at 1 a.m.; Friday and Saturday, at 2 a.m. We love all the sweet teas-with-a-kick on the menu, absolutely perfect pairings with barbecue. The chain even came up with a Stamford-only drink, the Stamford Peach, a mixture of Deep Eddy’s lemon vodka, peach schnapps, St. Germain, sour mix and a splash of soda.
There’s always a party going on at Hudson Grille, Saturdays and Sundays till 2 a.m., the rest of the week until 1 a.m. The after-dinner drinks menu is huge—ports, aperitifs, liqueurs, cognacs, single-malts and blended scotches, whiskies, bourbons, ryes and tequilas to go with your bar snack of choice.
Keeps the same late-night hours as BarBQ, except Barcelona’s open until 2 a.m. on Thursdays, too. There’s even a special late-night tapas menu—empanadas, croquetas, chorizo with sweet and sour figs, house-cured olives—to pair with your favorite wine. Have a little fun and order a wine flight, a fun way to kiss the evening good night.
