Beauty Basics

Being a mom means mastering a quick beauty routine. Pia Malizia, owner of Personal Image Artist/PIA, says, “People are driving all over the state just to maintain their regular beauty needs—manicures, lash extensions, sunless tanning, reflexology, facial treatments, waxing, makeup and hair services.” Her beauty oasis, however, changes all that by providing multiple services in one place. Here are her tips for new mothers.

KEEP A REGULAR SKIN ROUTINE
“Dull, dry skin can age a face as well as give the appearance of looking tired—and for new mothers, being tired is definitely a factor. A mild exfoliator followed by a probiotic cream and tinted moisturizer with SPF will do the trick. On a daily basis this regimen should take a total of five to seven minutes. Moms who are still nursing should check with their doctor before using any products, especially those with retinol.”

STAY HYDRATED
“Drinking enough water is always a crucial element to feeling and looking your best. It’s so easy to forget about ourselves when we become busy moms but drinking plenty of H2O is a must. Water keeps your body functioning properly and removes toxins from inside the body, whereas exfoliating the skin removes toxins from the outside. Water keeps skin moisturized and prevents wrinkles. It’s a natural miracle ingredient that supports vitamin consumption and assists in hair growth. Water makes almost a quarter of the weight of a hair strand, so drink two liters of water every day to get shiny and healthy tresses.”

GET A MANI/PEDI
“Getting your nails done can make you feel put together. Mothers spend so much time using their hands that they should be pampered, too. A manicure takes fifteen minutes, not including drying time.”

PUCKER UP
“With glowing skin, shiny full hair, and perfectly polished fingers and toes, a pop of color on your lip will finish off the look. Mothers don’t have much time, so less is definitely more. With brighter lip colors being all the rage, a quick swipe of lip color can make you look bright and refreshed. Not comfortable with a bright lip color? You can always opt for a gloss. Glosses tend to be less matte than a lipstick, so you can get the same effect without the boldness.”

GO SHORTER
“A slightly shorter style can make hair look fuller and be easier to manage, which can save time.”
