Silver Hill Hospital in New Canaan is partnering with HAN Network to educate the public about mental illness, addiction and more.  “Straight Talk with Tracey” is a new magazine-format lifestyle show that brings these important conversations into the family rooms of households throughout Connecticut. The show, which debuted in May, airs at noon on the second Thursday of every month on the HAN Network.

Host Tracey Masella, LCSW, has worked at Silver Hill Hospital for five years. She’s trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and has additional training in DBT-S for substance use disorder treatment. At Silver Hill, she works with the dual-diagnosis adult population and serves as program manager for the Adolescent Transitional Living Program. Prior to joining Silver Hill, Tracy was at the New Haven Family Alliance.

In her first show, “Is the Kid Alright?”, Masella helped listeners determine when an adolescent is just being an adolescent and when an adolescent is in need of help. As teens navigate the transition from childhood to adulthood, she says, parents can be plagued with worry about what is normal. To offer these parents the best information available, Masella invited child/adolescent psychiatrist Dr. Aaron Krasner to join her on the program and discuss developmental stages of adolescence.

On her next show, scheduled for June 8 at noon, she’ll tackle the subject of communicating with teens. Dr. Krasner will make another guest appearance to discuss how to develop a family frame of rules and expectations, set limits and determine how much is too much negotiation. The experts will also offer advice on how to teach your child to be independent.

Silver Hill Hospital is an 85-year old, not-for-profit psychiatric hospital with acute crisis stabilization and longer-term residential Transitional Living Programs. It admits 3,000 adolescents and adults annually for psychiatric disorders, which includes addiction, pain with co-occurring addiction, depression and eating disorders. Silver Hill is an academic affiliate of the Yale University School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry.
