To the Rescue

It has happened to everyone: a bad haircut. Eager to freshen up your look, you excitedly book your appointment at the salon and begin envisioning your new ’do. When the big day comes, you turn around in the stylist’s chair, expecting to see model-worthy hair…but instead you have to hide your shock, panic and perhaps even tears. Of course, it will eventually grow back, but what should you do in the meantime? We asked stylists around town how they would fix calamitous cuts. From embracing the change to quick-fix extensions, their advice helps to turn a negative experience into one of your best decisions all summer.

LET LOOSE
With the right product and the help of the humidity in the summer months, you can wear your hair with a natural wave and texture. Styling tools, such as curling irons and flat irons, come in handy so that the hair looks loose and tasseled, not showing any definitive lines.

PULL IT UP
If hair is straight, add as much texture as possible. If it is curly, add product to shape the curl and diffuse. Also wearing hair up in a ponytail or bun is a chic option. Of course, if you are trying to grow out bad bangs, you can always do a cute braid or add a stylish clip or barrette.

FAKE IT
If too much length was cut off, one quick and painless solution is tape-in hair extensions. Less of a commitment than bonded hair and more reliable than clip ins, tape-ins last up to two months and do not ruin your hair if properly done. The hair can be shampooed, conditioned and styled as normal. If celebrities can go from short to long overnight, why can’t we?

ROLL WITH IT
We have found that most hair “disasters” require only some minor adjustments in order to make that new style work. A short, textured bob can be a fix to many hair adventures gone awry. Add a soft blonde balayage and you have the perfect summertime look!
