Mill River Park Collaborative recently held the dedication for its new Whittingham Discovery Center. U.S. Rep. Jim Himes, Governor Ned Lamont and Stamford Mayor Caroline Simmons spoke about the investments and programming efforts. Nette Compton, CEO of the Collaborative, said it “will be integral in bringing awareness to the Mill River and the ecosystems we work to restore every day.” Cousins Adam and Paul Whittingham, sons of brothers Andrew and Michael Whittingham, for whom the center is named, shared that it encapsulates their fathers’ desire to provide experiential educational opportunities to children who lack equitable access to the environment. “Without the inspiration, leadership and generosity of the Whittingham brothers, this building would never have happened,” noted Arthur Selkowitz, chair of the board. Part of a master plan to connect the downtown to the coastline this summer. Visitors will be able to learn through interactive exhibits, film screenings, talks, demonstrations, science shows and programs for all ages.
