REDDING, CT, November 28, 2019 – For nearly half a century, the holiday season in Redding has started with a custom that is both festive and spectacular. This year, in keeping with that storied tradition, the Mark Twain Library will once again transform itself into a fine art gallery for the 47th Annual Mark Twain Library Art Show from December 6-15, 2019.
“This is a truly special event as it not only attracts unknown local artists and famed artists alike,” remarked Library Director Beth Dominianni, “but it also really reflects the unique and creative community right here in this small town of Redding.”
The Mark Twain Library Art Show draws talent from over 100 local and regional artists and displays their amazing pieces at the library for 10 days. It is a selective exhibition as it is a juried show, which means the artists must gain entry by approval from a respected artist or curator, the juror.
“When you take this magnificent building, where Mark Twain chose to leave some of his most prized possessions, his very own books, and you fill that with so many inspired works from watercolor, oil and pastel to metal, ceramic and wood, it becomes this magical gallery for everyone in this vibrant community to relish,” said Angie Kane, one of the event Co-Chairs.
The Art Show kicks off Friday evening, December 6, with a ticketed Preview Reception at the Library. The Preview Reception gives attendees the first opportunity to purchase the juried artworks and is a festive holiday event complete with beverages, appetizers, live music and a chance to mingle with the artists. The evening also includes a lively Silent Auction of artwork donated, where 100% of the proceeds benefit the library.
All art work is on display at the Library beginning December 7th with no admission fee and is for sale throughout the 10-day show. The artists donate a portion of the sale to benefit the library. In addition to the art on display, the Library will also host two crafting events on December 9th and 10th for those looking for a hands-on project.
“The Art Show provides vital funding that helps with everything from paying the staff, buying books, heating the facility, to supporting the adult and children’s programs,” said Betsy Higgins, Library Treasurer and one of the Art Show Co-Chairs.
This year’s juror is Connecticut’s own contemporary realist painter Del-Bourree Bach. Bach, who lives in Mystic, is renowned for his striking depictions of man and nature.
The Art Show culminates on Sunday, December 15, in a not-to-be missed afternoon reception for the artists and community which offers many buyers a chance to meet the creator of the piece they purchased.
The Mark Twain Library Art Show runs from Saturday, December 7 to Sunday, December 15, 2019. It is open to the public during Library hours, and all artwork is for sale.
